A complement to formal education for secondary school students, we offer young people of all abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to develop skills and express themselves in a safe and supportive environment. We provide nationally recognised Art Awards qualifications.
After School Training
Where appropriate, trainees may be put forward for an Arts Award Bronze Certificate which recognises skills gained through creative endeavours, as Sound Vision is a registered Arts Awards centre.
We work as a network of training hubs, where we establish skills infrastructure around the training capacity of local radio stations. For example, our collaboration with Somer Valley FM in Midsomer Norton, Riverside Radio in Wandsworth, and Tone FM in Taunton. These stations deliver After School Training for Sound Academy's Arts Award program. This approach allows us to support more young people across the country.
After School Training takes place weekly in customised 90-minute sessions. Trainees work with our experienced SEND-qualified trainers to learn all the skills necessary to make a radio programme or a podcast.
Working in teams they develop new collaboration skills, finesse time management with deadline-based projects, and improve competency in communication. This enhances educational and employment pathways, and most importantly, improves mental health and wellbeing. Sound Academy helps young people develop self-belief and further their future career goals.
