A major milestone

2023 has been quite the year for Sound Vision and it is only March.  Sound Vision is our new name following the re-branding of the long-standing and successful Somer Valley Education Trust. This evolution marked a major milestone in our transition from a small local Somerset charity into a continuously expanding medium-sized charity with national ambitions.

Alongside this change our wonderful Chair of Trustees, Mike Gorman is stepping down after six years of steadfast leadership. We wanted to take a moment to reflect on a few of our collective achievements during Mike's time at the helm.

  • Sound Academy was expanded to offer Alternative Provision and entry into Arts Awards.

  • Sound Music was created as a completely new service line providing early interventions, developing vital skills, self-confidence and routes into the music industry.

  • 500+ people were empowered through our inclusive training programmes.

  • 200+ people were supported in achieving their job of choice.

  • 40+ NCFE and Arts Awards qualifications were presented.

During a celebratory reception to mark our recent developments, Mike’s contribution to Sound Vision and the wider not-for-profit media sector was recognised with the presentation of an award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Community Media 2023.’

We are sure that Mike will continue to find opportunities to empower voices less heard and appreciate his continued support.

As Sound Vision continues its rapid growth, we are pleased to welcome two new Trustees to the team. Phil Gibbons, who has kindly agreed to take the mantle as our Chair and Maxine Stride who has been a long-standing member of the team.

Our enduring mission is to empower people through inclusive development, education, creativity and communication. We seek to engage with people of all ages but have a strong legacy and focus on young people. The Sound Vision team is equipped with the certifications, experience and compassion needed to support those with higher levels of need. We also have expertise in professional development, employability and podcast production. We aspire to provide future opportunities for our trainees by building resilience in the not-for-profit media sector.

We have an exciting and informative new website: www.soundvision.charity

Let us know what you think. We would welcome feedback to assist in our organic growth and development.
