Local Radio Day is back once again in 2023 on Friday 20th October, and this year’s theme is:
Community Heroes
We at Sound Vision want to celebrate those everyday people and organisations across the country that go the extra mile, aiding others, making a difference, and elevating their communities. Not forgetting, of course, the heroes at all our local radio stations broadcasting breaking news and critical information, showcasing new talent and fresh artistry, and keeping us all company wherever we may be.
For this eighth annual celebration of Local Radio Day Dom Chambers, Maxine Stride, Natalie Randall, and Pete Helmore at Sound Vision will be inviting local radio stations to gather Community Hero nominations, and then share their incredible stories on the airwaves and social media. Community Heroes are everywhere, from charity teams helping the homeless to solo superstars picking up litter every Sunday. From kids helping their nan’s cross the street to volunteers inspiring us to follow suit.
For Sound Vision, the participating radio stations are our community heroes! You are the voice of the community and over the coming months, we will be spotlighting some of the incredible stations who sign-up for 2023.
Thank you to our incredible partners
A huge thank you to TM Studios for producing our wonderful sung jingles, and to Devaweb for the imaging. Sound Vision couldn’t coordinate the day without the help and support of our fantastic partners.
This year we are also delighted to be partnering once again with the Community Media Association, Local Media Network, The Radio Hub, The Radio Academy, Local Radio Support and all local radio stations that wish to celebrate this holiday with us.
“
Local radio has seen significant changes and challenges in recent years, but I believe in its resilience. It serves local audiences and is mainly made by trusted local voices. As such it is a powerful force that strengthens community life. Local radio is positively impactful on those who make it and those who listen to it. Local Radio Day is the opportunity to celebrate the success and achievements of local radio and its empowering place in the communities of the UK.”
Dom Chambers, Sound Vision CEO
Last year our theme was ‘Celebrate the Sound’, and the collective efforts of participating radio stations achieved an incredible social media reach of more than 1.5 million with the hashtag #LocalRadioDay. We will be working to grow these numbers this year, and would love your help! Even if you were with us last year, please sign up to receive a 2023 promo pack chock full of ideas, logos, jingles, and social media assets to celebrate in style.
“
Local Radio is a powerful and empowering medium. For 2023 we encourage stations to celebrate by using their platforms to showcase the people and organisations that make a difference in their communities. Whilst stations gather Community Hero nominations, our Local Radio Day team are looking forward to spotlighting participating stations on social media over the next few months.”
Maxine Stride, Trustee Sound Vision, Organiser, Local Radio Day
We can’t wait to see local radio stations nationwide celebrating Local Radio Day, showcasing their local Community Heroes, shouting out their amazing local charities, discovering untold stories of the kindness and generosity of the everyman, and encouraging a new generation of budding Community Heroes to follow their examples.
Don’t forget to use the hashtag #LocalRadioDay for all your relevant posts, stories, and highlights on Friday 20th of October, and follow us on social media for updates.
